Trick or Treat Halloween Pulley System for Candy

Share & Help Me Grow

Struggling with a socially-distanced solution for greeting trick or treaters this Halloween? Why not install a quick and easy Halloween candy delivery system?

This Halloween candy delivery system is super easy to create. You only need a few things to make a socially-distanced Halloween pulley system for candy.

COVID-19 has definitely changed a lot about how we live life and is even changing Halloween.

Since our church is not having its annual Fall Festival, this will be our second time home on Halloween in 16 years. (The first time was due to illness so we were not opening the door at all.)

Why a Halloween Candy Delivery System?

While our family isn’t huge into celebrating Halloween, we love the opportunity to show our neighbors – a racially and culturally diverse community – that we are a safe place.

We love our neighbors and we show it by getting to know them by name and meeting any needs that we can.

So, we want to continue our mission of being friendly to the neighborhood trick or treaters but without spreading any unnecessary germs. (I’m side-eyeing you, COVID.)

That’s why we created a socially-distanced Halloween pulley system for candy that is sure to make the children happy.

How to Make a Halloween Pulley System for Candy

This Halloween candy delivery system is simple to make and took us less than 30 minutes, including the time it took to video the process.

Install a clothesline hook to a column or other convenience spot on the front of your home.

Attach another clothesline hook to the mailbox. The clothesline hooks do not need to be level with one another.

Run the clothesline rope through both ends of the pulley wheels.

Attach the clothesline tightener to one end by tying the rope through the loop. Pull the knot as tight as you can. You don’t want your Halloween candy delivery system falling when there are a dozen trick or treaters waiting.

Then, attach the other rope end through the clothesline tightener.

This was the hardest part and actually took two people. My husband held the tightener with the ball mechanism open while I pushed the rope through. It took a couple of tries but we got it.

Trim any excess clothesline but leave enough slack to tie a knot as a cautionary measure to keep the rope from slipping through the tightener.

Again, you can trim any excess rope on the Halloween pulley system once that knot is in place.

How to Use the Halloween Candy Delivery System

To use the Halloween Clothesline Pulley System, just use clothespins to attach candy to the line and pull the opposite side to move the candy from your front door to the mailbox.

If you don’t want to use clothespins, you could install laundry hooks on your clothesline with the clamp holding the rope and the hook pointed down. Just punch holes in the bags and hang them on the hook.

This would eliminate the need for children to touch the clothespins, making the Halloween Candy Delivery System even safer against the COVID virus and other germs.

If the trick or treaters come fast and furious in your neighborhood, you could even attach a hanging drying rack.

This would get more candy down the line faster.

For Faster Delivery on the Halloween Pulley System

Speaking of faster, here are a two tips for keeping the candy delivery system moving.

  1. Load up candy on both sides.

While children are removing candy from one end of the clothesline, you can be loading the other side of the candy pulley system.

That’s the beauty of the pulley system. It’s dual sided! That means twice the candy… twice as fast.

2. Plan ahead for the big night by loading up plastic sandwich bags, candy cauldrons, or paper favor bags with candy and treats in advance.

(Remember to keep the contents of your goodie bags COVID-safe by choosing prepackaged items. Skip the homemade yummies.)

While we used these cute candy cauldrons for the Halloween Pulley System for candy video, we will actually be using snack-size baggies.
