How much money do you throw in the trash? Seriously… when you think about the cost of the remnants of soap and shampoo or hair gel and toothpaste, how much money have you sent to the landfill because you did not want to get to the bottom of the bottle?
Here are some simple tips to help you save money on toiletries by not wasting them:
- Place a sealing clip across the toothpaste and move it towards the spout periodically.
- For children, invest in the Touch N Brush. It really helps cut down on waste.
- Write a date on your toothbrush and makeup with a permanent marker when you start using it to make sure you change it when due. This might not save you from buying more makeup or toothbrushes but it will save you a co-pay at the doctor.
- Use a pair of scissors or utility knife to slice open plastic containers of face wash and hair gel to scrape out the remainder.
- Store shampoo and conditioner containers upside down.
- You have seen this tip here before: Put slivers of leftover bar soap into a piece of hosiery to lather and use or squeeze it against a wet, new bar of soap to continue using it.
- Before putting a roll of toilet paper out for use, squash it. The bumpy roll with discourage over-use.

Good tips! Thank you! But if you want to save more money, you should also think about things like water consumption as well as energy consumption. You can save a great some on utility bills if you invest in low-flow toilet and low-flow shower head. Also, you can save a lot by taking a shower instead of taking a bath.

One more tip, if I might add, is – to install a high-efficiency toilet. Toilets use a lot of water. Older toilets can use up to 7 gallons a flush. High-efficiency toilets come in an array of styles and price points, but they all have one thing in common: they save water. Most high-efficiency toilets use only 1.5 gallons of water per flush, and some use even less.
