There is nothing wrong with staying close to home (or even AT home) for your vacation. Often, at least in my personal opinion, trips to far away destinations are more stressful than fun. So, why not be a tourist right here on the coast? Right now, the northern Gulf Coast is experiencing great economic stress due to dropping interest in the recreation we offer thanks to BP Oil and the looming greatest ecological disaster in history. (Yep, I think it is going to get much worse before it gets better.)
Anyway, the beaches are still oil free and there is much to do in areas already feeling the impact from the Deep Horizon Oil Spill. So, keep it close to home. Sleep late. Enjoy a nice breakfast and then hit the road and enjoy all of the wonderful activities within a few hours of drive time.
