I never cease to be amazed by the number of people who do not know this! So, pardon the report from August:
Did you know that you qualify for BOGO sales items even if you are using your WIC check as payment?
The first time I did this, I felt like I had done something wrong. Grits were on sale Buy One Get One Free and so I was about to get 72 ounces instead of the normal 36 ounces. The cashier rang the transaction without any concern but I just felt strange.
I am always super sensitive to not get more than what we should with our WIC. Guess I am still grappling with the fact that we qualify since some people I know consider that shameful. But tell me which is more shameful: feeding my children by using WIC or depriving them of juice, cereal, milk, fruits, and vegetables? I will put my soapbox away now.
The next time, I had slightly more confidence that it was okay as I used the BOGO sale to get double boxes of cereal and the cashier did not say anything.
My confidence continued to grow but I was still a little anxious… until last night…
Bill went to Winn Dixie to pick up our WIC and only grabbed one bottle of Juicy Juice. At the register, the cashier INSISTED that he go back and get another as they are Buy One Get One Free this week.
Now, it should be noted that this has not been tested in any store but Winn Dixie. Please ask before you assume that it is okay, but it is accepted at Winn Dixie.
I would love to know if this works at other stores so please leave me a comment or drop me an email if you have been able to purchase BOGOs at other locations.
Items that frequently go on BOGO at Winn Dixie that you could use with your WIC checks:
- Cereal and grits
- Cheese
- Juicy Juice
- Fruits and vegetables

I did not know that you could use BOGO sales with WIC vouchers. I say if a store offers it though you should DEFINITELY take advantage of it! And no you absolutely should NOT feel guilty for being on WIC. No one who used the new homebuyers tax credit felt guilty for using that money. It’s all money from the government. If you qualify for a break from the government you take it- all the rich people know that, its why they pay so much to have people do their taxes for them. PUT THAT GUILT AWAY and enjoy your beans and milk!

my windixie dose not alow wic bogos but our publix dose so not all windixe do this thatswhy I go to publix

My Winn-Dixie/ Harveys doesn’t do this anymore. They made it where it rings up and takes half off each item instead of freeing one item out. So basically WIC ends up covering 3 boxes of cereal at half off, then I end up paying for the other 3 at half off. I don’t know why they are doing that. They get reimbursed through WIC. Even a GM I know thinks its stupid. I am thinking about complaining as it feels like they are being prejudiced against WIC holders with their deals.

You can’t in the state of Alabama because they are not a true buy one get one free state.

I did it successfully for years using WIC checks at Winn Dixie.

Has anyone done it at Publix in Florida? They have bogo on canned tomatoes and that would definitely help make extra spaghetti sauce to make and freeze.

Tried it at my Publix in Georgia. It did not work. It’s not really a buy get one they are just half off original price.
Tabitha says
Since most Publix stores are not really BOGO, meaning that the items are half price when on sale, this would not work. However, in states where there is a true buy one, get one free (is it just Florida?) it will work.
