Waste Nothing Challenge: Week Three

Share & Help Me Grow

For the third week of the Waste Nothing Challenge, I had to tackle some wilting produce (AGAIN) and bread ends.

Poor bread ends! They are so neglected. Ever wonder how much bread you have tossed in the form of bread ends? You can actually use bread ends in several different ways, but this week I pulled a tricky-trick on the baby. I made toast and sliced it into strips with a smidge of peanut butter. She ate it up as if it were a gourmet meal. Loved it.

Then, I had an abundance of produce but just bits and pieces. Not enough to really make anything.

what to do with wilting produce

So, I chopped it up and made stir fry. I’ve said before how I love stir fry because it is so versatile. You really don’t have to sweat a special sauce either. Just get the skillet hot, add some olive oil, and toss in the vegetables. Right before the vegetables are softened to your preference, drizzle with a couple of tablespoons of soy sauce.

With meat. Without meat. Over rice. Over noodles. As a side. However you want it.

Yum.

And, you rescued some produce, saving some money. You have got to feel good about that!

What did I throw out?

  • Nothing!

Total waste from Week Three: $0

What did you toss in the trash this week?

Thanks, Rita. We have stir fry A LOT. It is so simple and definitely keeps waste to a minimum.

I always threw out bread ends until recently! Now, I either use them for bread crumbs or I use them for sandwiches by turning them around so that it doesn’t look like the end! It totally tricks my kids!

Our poor kids. LOL But, why waste? It is bread… even if it is the butt end. 😉
