Saving Money on Wedding Apparel

You want to look good… whether it is your top priority or not. So, how can you do that and save some money too?

First off, avoid bridal specialty stores. GASP! Those dream gowns will eat a hole in your budget faster than anything.  Look at other shops that sale bridal fashions as a sideline and not as their main focus.  These shops will have beautiful gowns with much lower prices.  Also, if you are on a really tight budget, you may want to consider the classified section of your local newspaper, Craigslist, or even Ebay.  Take into consideration that you need to budget for alterations just in case you purchase a dress this way and it does not fit.  For a more vintage look, call a few antique stores and see if they have bridal apparel available.

Another outlet for finding your gown would be borrowing from a friend or having someone make your dress.  We purchased my gown but my aunt made the veil.  All we had to do was purchase the material.

If you absolutely MUST go to a specialty store, wait for a sale and do not forget to check for gowns and accessories on clearance.

Perhaps you do not want to purchase a dress.  Consider renting from a reputable shop.

As for your man, many tuxedo rental shops will offer you the groom’s tuxedo for free is you register your entire bridal party there.  If they do not and you have a large bridal party, do not hesitate to ask!  Another option would be borrowing a tuxedo or just wearing a really nice suit.

One thing to keep in mind is the location of your wedding.  Choose your attire according to the season too.  I love seeing wedding pictures on the beach where the Bride is in a simple dress and the Groom is in linen pants with a simple white shirt.  So classic and comfortable… and affordable!
