On Thursday, we received the most awesome news about my thyroid. I went to see a new endocrinologist (which was a complete God thing since she came in on her off day to see me), and she thinks that the radiologist’s interpretation of the thyroid ultrasound is incorrect. She doesn’t think I have a multinodular goider like all the other doctor’s have said. She thinks I have subaccute thyroidism.
Essentially, my thyroid got a virus and it built up and up until it released all that thyroid hormone in a storm which sent me into hyperthyroid. Now, it seems that I have shifted into a normal phase and she thinks I will next go into a hypothyroid phase. After that, my thyroid should return to normal although some patients never get back and stay hypothyroid.
More good news… this is not something that will probably happen again. No surgery needed. No radiation needed. Just monitoring every month for a while to see how the cycle is progressing and possibly an increase in my beta blocker (if hyper) or synthroid (if hypo). They did more labs today and an ultrasound to confirm her diagnosis is next week. Then, I will go back in January for more labs.
Thank you all so much for your prayers. I am convinced that without the prayers of many, this could be a different story.
