If you have a baby in the house, you probably have an abundance of baby food jars. You could toss them but a more earth-friendly idea aside from dropping those tiny glass jars at the recycling center would be to reuse them.
Here are some ideas I have on my Baby Food Jars board on Pinterest ~
1. Baby Shower Favor from New Life on a Homestead
2. Spice Jars from Frugal Decor Mom
3. Paint Saver from Real Simple
4. Pie in a Jar from Green Wedding Shoes
5. Snow Globes from Parenting
6. Hummingbird Feeder from My Hummers
7. Pin Cushion Sewing Kit from Cut Out & Keep
8. Homemade Butter from Quirky Momma
9. Hanging Vases from Good Housekeeping
10. Cute Gift Containers from eHow
11. Cake in a Jar from Rook No. 17
12. Fabric-wrapped Candles from Prudent Baby
13. Epsom Salt Votives from Crafts by Amanda

You can also use old baby food jars to start an herb garden. You place a seed in a jar filled with potting soil and once it grows to where you see the roots on the sides of the jar carefully soften the soil with water and pull out the plant, transplanting it into something bigger. Is great if you want to grow them and live in an apartment.

I think these are great ideas, we often clean ours out and put them in the garage to store nuts, bolts, and small parts in.

I tried to use Gerber baby food jars to store a few condiments in my upstairs dorm fridge. I was appalled, disgusted, that my parmesan cheese (as in kraft pre grated) molded within a week. It’s not frig temp, bc it stays between 30-40 – often more towards colder. And other items, the rubber seal on the lid got green to dark around the edges.
What is the rubbery material made of? I have seen the same thing happen with store-bought jam. Is it really nontoxic? I can not find a substitute lid that fits. Would live to use them for spices, treats, “chillpill” jars.
Someone please help.
