If you have not heard of workboxes or have never used workboxes, you might be completely clueless about why I love them so much. From my point of view, with four children puttering around the house, I find the workbox system extremely beneficial.
First off, every child has their own set of boxes which gives them a territory. In our small home where the children have to share toys, clothes and personal space, this is very important to them. They are given the responsibility of keeping their area neat and organized.
Next, the children can see exactly how much work needs to be done each day and learn to be self-motivated. I let them set their own pace (for the most part… unless Lira starts to drag) and that way they determine when school is over.
Also, I love that the workbox system frees me up. I am not constantly having to sit with one child while the others run wild or while Mount Dishmore looms in the kitchen. I can have the children working on their boxes and rotate giving one-on-one attention to each child.
Then, workboxes can fit almost any curriculum. Nothing specific is required and you can mold the system to fit your family.
Finally, workboxes are an easy way to stick to a routine. Lira loves patterns and stability so workboxes fit her personality perfectly. Franc loves mystery and surprises so workboxes fit him perfectly. Ruble just wants to be like his big brother and sister so workboxes fit him perfectly. I need a little sanity so… you get the picture.
And one more… I cannot forget the best benefit of workboxes! My children are excited about school and learning. What could be better than that?!

In addition to the things you listed, I have found that they work perfect for children who learn in visual way. The visual picture cards, and charts help them to know and have control over what will happen with their day. Special needs children thrive on picture charts and visuals, and this is a great solution to help them. I love that my child who thrives on a strict schedule, and clear cut rules finds this system to be the greatest thing ever created. I love that I make time to include things like file folder games, and other hands on learning items that I wouldn’t have otherwise done. I also love how the boxes help to break up the subjects so that the child doesn’t get so overwhelmed.
