New Orleans is an intriguing place, and since one of my first dates with Bill involved a visit to NOLA AND that is where I bought my wedding dress, the city has a special place in my heart. While it may have been a bit more family-friendly before Hurricane Katrina, there are still some great things to do.
Lousiana Children’s Museum ~ Discover more than 30,000 square feet of hands-on, interactive exhibits that invite and engage children and families as they explore art, music, science, math, and health, and role-playing environments. If you will have children with you, this is the number one stop for kids!
Algiers Ferry ~ Take the ferry on the Mississippi River and visit the quaint Algiers Point with its 19th century charm and stroll along the Jazz Walk of Fame.
Audubon Aquarium of the Americas ~ As one of the top museums of its kind in America, the aquarium boasts 15,000 sea life creatures, representing nearly 600 species, living happily in a state-of-the-art facility.
New Orleans City Park ~ This is much more than a park! The New Orleans Museum of Art, The Sydney and Walda Bestoff Sculpture Garden, Storyland (a children’s fairy tale playground featuring twenty-six larger than life storybook exhibits) and Hines’ Carousel Amusement Park all are nestled among the oaks in the City Park.
Audubon Park ~ Take your gumbo to go and have a picnic in this beautiful park.
National World War II Museum ~ This museum, which opened in 2000, is explanding to quadruple its campus but still offers a tremendous amount to see.
Audobon Zoo ~ The first zoo I ever visited. It is great too but not during the summer. The heat causes most of the animals to seek shade. So, if you plan to go, visit during Twilight Zoo, the extended summer hours and stop at the Cool Zoo, wild and wet splash park.
