Homemade Peeps-Inspired Playdough

Share & Help Me Grow

Peeps-inspired playdough is a simple recipe creating a magical dough that smells like the Peeps candy. Since it is non-toxic, the kids could eat it, although I don’t recommend it. Yuck!

Spring and Easter bring lots of opportunities for fun crafts and activities with your kids… pretty bright colors, springtime treats, and sweet baby animals.

Peeps seem to bring all those things together and are loved by many! We love to make Peeps Pops to give to friends.

But even if you don’t love eating this sweet sugary treat, you and your little one will love this creative take on an Easter Basket favorite… Peep Playdough!

Supplies needed:

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons marshmallow flavor
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • food coloring, your choice of colors
  • optional- peeps mold: bunnies only or chicks and bunnies

Directions:

Place flour, water, oil, salt, and cream of tartar in a large sauce pan over medium heat and stir frequently until dough begins to pull away from sides of pan and sticks together as a lump to the spoon.

Remove from heat and stir in marshmallow flavor and vanilla extract to combine well.

Flip dough onto floured surface and allow to cool to the touch, knead for 2 minutes.

Divide dough into piles, as many colors as you want to make.

Add food coloring a few drops at a time, kneading in until your desired shade is reached. I wanted mine bright but not intense so they resembled peeps.

Give your child Spring and Easter themed cookie cutters or a fun peep mold like this one pictured, a small rolling pin, and other simple tools.

The scent and color of this homemade play dough will spur your child on to create all kinds of spring time treats!

Store your dough in an airtight container and it will last for weeks. If it becomes a bit dried out, just work a little oil back into the dough.

About Tabitha

Hi! I'm Tabitha! But, I bet you expected someone named "Penny." Long story made short, Penny is the coupon binder I started in 2010 when we were totally broke... as in BANKRUPT. Now, as a mom of five, I make 6-figures a year working at home and share ways to help you move from penny to profit while you raise a family with sense on cents.
